Facts About Mark
Black sheep of a very
musical family, I started playing pipes at a wee age in 1982, mostly to
torment my parents. My mother played the harp and sang in the church
choir. My brother is an accomplished guitarist.
My sister is a
professional pianist who now resides overseas in Berlin. Then there was
their piper....
I've played with several bands, most notably
City of Washington from
1993-2001. I competed in Grade II at the Worlds and in Grade I at the Cowal Gathering and really learned a lot from my COW experience. I
enjoy teaching pipes and working with students. I'm also Band
Instructor and a founding member of the
DC
Fire Department Pipes & Drums. Formed after the 9/11
tragedy, I'm extremely proud of the incredible effort those firemen have
put into fielding a quality 40-person fire service pipe band in our
nation's capital. I am grateful to many people who have had an impact
on my piping, most notably Joey McGonigle, Chase Small, Sandy Jones, Tim
Carey, and Mike Green.
I'm married to a lovely woman with the
patience of a Saint! We have two sons and one daughter and I have high
aspirations for future pipers or drummers. Vice President of Sales
& Marketing for a pharmaceutical services company, I travel pretty
extensively for work. This is a great opportunity to go to practices of
other bands and to meet genuinely nice people. I can truly say I have
met some of the best people through pipe bands. Play the BIG music. |
