About The Band

The Ulster Scottish organization is comprised of two competition bands: the Grade 3 Ulster Scottish Pipe Band, and the Grade 5 Thomas I Hall Memorial Pipe Band.

Ulster Scottish Pipe Band was formed in 1922, making it one of the oldest pipe bands in the United States.  It is a Grade 3 competition band.  The band is under the direction of Pipe Major Dave Hall and Drumming Instructor Derek Cooper and is located just outside of Philadelphia, PA.

Thomas I Hall Memorial Pipe Band was formed in 2005, in remembrance of Tom Hall.  Tom was Pipe Major of the Ulster Scottish Pipe Band for 42 years.  TIHMPB is a Grade 5 competition band.  The Band is under the direction of Pipe Major Traci Cooper (Tom's Daughter) and Drum Sergeant Eric Knudsen.

Ulster Scottish Pipe Band is not affiliated with any political, ethnic or religious organization.  It is a diverse group of individuals with one common goal: good music.

The bands compete at an average of 10 Scottish Games each year, and also perform in various parades and other venues.  We are a family-oriented band focused on competition.   Both bands are dedicated to teaching.  New members are always welcome.  We practice weekly in Roslyn, PA, and occasionally in Elkton, MD.  If you are interested in becoming a member, please e-mail us.
